    MRS 253 began life as MRS 208, a 1,000 hp ALCO S-2. The unit was then rebuilt by EMD with a new 645C, a new hood, and new AAR trucks, the only thing original is the frame and cab. This was reportedly the most expensive rebuild of a switcher ever.
