The Silverton, in 1967, departing Durango which was still connected by rail to the rest of the country. The Rio Grande was the last class 1 railroad with regularly scheduled steam powered passenger service. At the time, many of the cars were still made of wood. Railyards still occupied the area behind me to the right and the area behind the roundhouse was still open land.
