Loading passengers on a middle track involves erecting these bridge plates that span across the platform track. Note the trainman (in a very 1970s conductor uniform) guarding the gap, and about to help the gentleman in red boots who is carrying a man purse. Although the famous New Haven triangle catenary was still up in 1977, a section of it here in Larchmont had already been replaced.
