| "Elephant" 2978 (2-10-0, 4-Cylinder Compound, built 1917 by SLM Winterthur) is celebrating 125 years of the Gotthard line through the Alps with a public special, below Gurtnellen on the northern ascent (2,6 o/o) to the Gotthard tunnel. The 28 "Elephants" were the last steam locomotives for the Gotthard before electrification in 1920. |
