Welcome To The Rock!
With the island of Alcatraz and San Francisco Bay in the background, a southbound Powell-Hyde cable car climbs Russian Hill. This car originated at Fisherman's Wharf and is approaching the 'crooked' Lombard Street. Alcatraz Prison (a.k.a. "The Rock"), visible in the distance, served as a maximum security federal penitentiary from 1934 to 1963. |
