| This is the Calder Valley scene of my youth. Another westbound train of coal plods wearily past Mirfield on a bright March day. In the left distance is the long demolished Ravensthorpe power station. Behind the 'WD' is Mirvale Chemicals and Hopton Woods are on the right. Mirfield's once extensive yard is now a wasteland, of the thirteen sets of track visible in 1966, but two remain. |
