For a brief period from October 1983, triple vintage 1951-built English Electric 900 class (with similar body shape to an ALCo PA unit) were entrusted with the Adelaide - Melbourne Overland service as far as Serviceton on the South Australia/Victoria border, just prior to through running of motive power commencing the following month. With not long remaining in service, 907, 901 and 907 await their nocturnal departure from Adelaide Station in October 1983.
