        Remarks & Notes
This ominous dark cloud came out of nowhere on an otherwise bright overcast day right before the Hornell Turn passed through. It foreshadowed the crew’s trouble, as the lead engine would cut out at least three times before the crew finally had enough and took it off line. The engineer had to operate the two remaining units from the second locomotive while the conductor stayed in the lead unit to spot and blow the horn for the many grade crossings on this line.

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.

New York state has the largest number of ALCO diesel locomotives working in everyday service. Here are some of them. Soon I hope to chronicle all of them.
