It's a balmy winter afternoon in Utah's Echo Canyon. Here, UP's Warm Springs, CA to North Platte, NE auto & tank train combo rolls east through Echo, approaching a restrictive 35 mph curve at the east end. At right, UP 8143's sister unit, was set out by a passing MWCNP-09 train a couple of days before. Speculation on my part, but considering the remoteness of this area, it may have been bad ordered for one reason or another. The UP 8143 was constructed by EMD in May 1997, while the younger UP 8215 was built in February 1998.
