    Remarks & Notes
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 589 heads north out of San Diego for Los Angeles with three locomotives shoving on the rear - F59PHI 458, Dash 8-32BWH 505 and F59PHI 452. These trains normally require just one locomotive, and occasionally a second is seen - but three is fairly rare. In late summer, when the Del Mar horse racing season is in full swing, the added capacity on these trains makes them a bit more interesting, The train is seen here climbing Rose Canyon, just north of San Diego, on August 10, 2010.
