    Remarks & Notes
Wanna go for a spin? Members of the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum crew watch as Trainman Stewart Rhine demonstrates the turntable capability of the museum's new Model T Track Inspection Car. Although most of Maine's 2-foot railroads had similar vehicles for their track crews, only the WW&F had a car with a built-in turntable that allowed the crew to easily spin the car 180 degrees as needed, so that the crew was always facing forward. The turntable is located under the car and incorporates a jacking mechanism that is actuated using the same crank tool as the car's starter. The chassis is raised several inches above the railhead and is very precisely balanced on the turntable pad. It can then be rotated by a couple of crewmembers as you see here, and lowered back on to the rails. The car you see here is not exactly original, nor is it a replica. The Model T power plant and cowling are genuine Ford originals, but the chassis is a custom design that is based on the original with some modifications to permit its use as both an MOW vehicle and a railbus to transport museum patrons.
