The aptly named Feather River Express scales the canyon and skirts the North Fork Feather River, bound for Portola, with two P42's and fourteen private cars behind. The train was originally scheduled to have UP 1983 and 1996 leading the train, but Amtrak screwed the pooch and failed to put them on the train in Oakland.. A real disappointment, especially since the lead P42 is a rust bucket.. Two points for you, Amtrak!
