| Having left Eastgate Station only minutes before, the V&T's morning train to Virginia City whistles the Linehan Road crossing in the Carson City suburb of Mound House. The section of track that travels through Mound House is unfortunately the only section of the line's reconstruction that does not follow the original right-of-way. As the Tri-County Commission attempted to acquire land to rebuild the railroad, it found that housing developments in and around Mound House would necessitate that a couple of miles of track would have to take a westerly detour. Although a bit of history may have been lost as a result, the new section of track keeps the train on relatively undeveloped land and provides railroad patrons with a much more scenic ride. |
