The Lancashire town of Ramsbottom, with a population of just under 15,000, is the mid-point of the East Lancashire Railway. Dominant in this landscape is the stone-built church of St. Paul in the Early English style, erected in 1850 at a cost of ￡3,400. Getting under way from Ramsbottom station (just out of sight behind the trees) and heading towards Bury is BR 'Standard' Mogul No.76079 a stalwart of the line's fleet. This locomotive is very much in demand for main line running all over the UK, usually paired with 'Black 5' 4-6-0 No 45407.
