The temperature is hovering around 15 degrees the first weekend of December 2005 - here at Chemult, OR the lights from the classic SP signal bridge shining bright into the darkness. The hiss and the blue glow from the switch heaters and the growing stillness of this central oregon town were around us - the town will be... brought back to life soon with the brief arrival of Amtrak #11, only to enter back into quiet as quickly as it came. Our hosts at the Featherbed Inn were very accomodating by plowing a trail from the Inn back to the tracks for us in the knee deep snow. Temperatures would continue to drop overnight as the next morning would greet us at a frigid 5 degrees. See More
