    Remarks & Notes
Bath & Hammondsport #5, being operated by CGNE, is in the process of departing Cohocton with its excursion train. The flagman climbs aboard after flagging Rt 415. In early 1993 the Champagne Railroad thru Steuben County IDA took over operations of the former Bath & Hammondsport lines and ran a tourist train from Cohocton, NY to Bath, NY on the old DL&W main and then up the original B&H to the Taylor Winery at Pleasant Valley, NY just south of Hammondsport. B&H # 5 was built in 1950 as New York Central # 872, became Despatch Shops # 5 and moved to B&H in 1970. The Livonia, Avon & Lakeville took over these lines in 1996.

The scenic Adirondack and Catskill Mountains offer wonderful views, but political forces have made it difficult for railroads to stay in business.
