Heading eastbound along the sunrise-lit shores of Wapta Lake and dwarfed by Mt. Stephen's 11K' bulk, second 110 grinds upgrade through the sag along Wapta's shore. This is the former site of a wye and station called Hector, where during the days of the Big Hill (A 4.5% grade up the pass, circumnavigated by the spiral tunnels in 1909) pushers would turn around, as the train was at the top of the 4.5% grade. Later in steam days all helpers would go to the top of the pass at Stephen, because there is a bit more 2.2% grade to come!
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
