| In Memory of the Fallen – On February 1, 1996, a Westward ATSF freight train derailed on a descending curve at milepost 60.7 of what was then Main #1. The derailment occured near the base of Stein's Hill which is approximately 4 miles West of C.P. Summit and about 20 miles East of San Bernardino. The derailment occurred when the train entered a 25 MPH curve at a speed estimated to be in excess of 50 MPH resulting in deaths of the conductor and brakeman and serious injuries to the engineer.
