| The TGV 9207 (Paris Est to Zurich) is rushing through the Saint-Louis station. In a few minutes, it will arrive at the Basel SBB station. In front of the train one can see a "crocodile". The crocodile is a component of a train protection system called Répétition des Signaux (French for "signal repetition"). The communication between the ground-based signalling system and the in-cab equipment is made by the crocodile, an electrical contact placed between the rails and a metallic brush mounted beneath the locomotive cab. This signalling system is used by the French (SNCF), Belgian (NMBS/SNCB) and Luxemburg (CFL) railways. |
