    Remarks & Notes
EBT Gas Motor Car M-3. This photo depicts one of several unique, gasoline-burning vehicles that were developed by the East Broad Top Railroad during the years when it was a common carrier. This Gas Motor Car was built from scratch in the railroad's shops back in 1924. Despite its appearance, it was built on a custom frame and not fashioned from an automobile chassis like similar vehicles on other lines. When first built, it had a Maxwell Engine, transmission and rear end. It also had no road number. Then, in 1928, it was rebuilt with a Nash Engine and drive train. At that time, it was officially numbered M-3. This motor car was used as a utility and track inspection vehicle over the years and actually ran the line a number of times after it officially shut down as a freight hauler in 1956. It has made numerous appearances at special events since the railroad became a tourist attraction and was extensively restored back in 2006 by the Friends of the East Broad Top, a volunteer organization. The M-3 is pictured here sitting outside the shed where it is usually stored.

A look at the one-time coal-hauler, which ran as a tourist railroad for decades and finally ceased operations in 2011. The album includes photos from an October 2010 charter as well as images from the very last Fall Spectacular in October of 2011.
