Turbopower no more. Once the pride of Amtrak's Empire Service fleet, the lone RTL-II Turboliner set is now slowly crumbling away behind the former Super Steel Schenectady plant. This trainset was rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen as a proof-of-concept demonstrator prior to the ill-fated RTL-III program and was given a unique white, red and grey paint scheme. Depressingly, she now sits exposed to Upstate New York's harsh range of elements, rust gathering on her flank, windows cracked, lenses broken, nature attempting to reclaim what was once an engineering marvel capable of 110-mile-per-hour speeds... but no longer.
A plethora of Amtrak engines that are either already scrapped, are in deadlines, or they're in severe danger of being scrapped. Not all of the great engines from the past 43 years can be saved...
