| Although I went to Benxi steelworks to see their fleet of SY class 2-8-2 steam locomotives, there was (is?) a separate fleet of these ancient electric locomotives. Nos.1001 and 1013 are seen on the depot with 1017 in the background. It's just a guess, but I suspect the overhead catenary prevented their use within the confines of the works itself where the 'SY's were used and thus they worked peripheral lines. Little seems to be known about their exact age or origin (possibly imports from the GDR?). Very similar locomotives are known to have worked in Russia and Poland. Further information is welcome from viewers! |
