Newport, Vermont to East Deerfield, Massachussets train, is working uphill, southbound on Candian Pacific rails. As B&M's last operating cab unit, lack of nose MU, and other issues, made the 4266 a familiar sight as the trailing unit on mid 1970's Connecticut River line trains. On this southbound run out of Newport, Vermont things were different. CP provided helpers over the hill to St. Johnsbury, Vt. Because the helpers took the form of trailing units, B&M 4266 was forced to take the lead on this sunny Sunday. In a matter of weeks, however, expensive problems would take her out of service. Instead of being scrapped, B&M 4266 was restored to factory paint to serve on the Conway Scenic RR. in New Hampshire.
