    Remarks & Notes
The Boston Section of the Lake Shore Limited crosses under the WB lanes of the New York State Thruway Berkshire Connector on the single track, jointed rail Post Road Sub. Historically this track is the west end of the original Boston & Albany mainline. This track is owned by Amtrak and dispatched by CSX and Amtrak 448 and 449 are the only trains that run on this 12 mile line. This line runs from the CSX Berkshire Sub (the connection is one mile south of here) to the Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak Station. This line has been passenger only since the 1924 opening of the Albany bypass and building of Selkirk Yard which eliminated the need for freight from New England to head north on this line to Albany in order to reach points west (thereby avoiding the 1.63% West Albany Grade). After Amtrak failed to pick up Albany to Boston trains in 1971, Penn Central tore this line up in 1973. After restoring the Lake Shore Limited and its Boston section in 1975, Amtrak rebuilt this line in 1979.
