High plains drifter After a very early blizzard in October 1997, the eastern plains of Colorado were heavily drifted with snow. Union Pacific found that it needed to call the Cheyenne-based rotary snowplow to open up the Limon Subdivision (Kansas Pacific). UP's rotary plow No. 900082 chews through a small drift east of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, as the sun sinks in the afternoon sky. With a north wind blowing all day, this is the only stretch of railroad they tried blowing the snow to the north (for obvious reasons).
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
