          Remarks & Notes
It's a decade or two since steam passed this way. The 'Cathedrals Express' heads west crossing the canal at Woodnook. This is in the one mile section of line between the junctions at Methley (to the right) and Altofts. It's also one of Britain's earliest main lines constructed by the North Midland Railway (later Midland Railway) in 1840 to connect the city of Leeds with London. This area was also the scene of intense rivalry in those early days with Methley Junction playing a key role in allowing other competing railways to access the important commercial centres in Leeds. My wife Barbara, my dog 'Jess' and I were amazed to be alone in watching the passing of the train in this peaceful, idyllic location on this beautiful, balmy morning.
