    Remarks & Notes
The L&N company photographer has arranged to stop train 70 on a June morning in 1957 at the big trestle at Independence. Up front today is an A-B-B-A set of F-units (F9/F7/F3/F7). Lead unit 924 is a rare (on the L&N) F9, built in November 1956--one of the last cab units constructed for the company. The nose herald has been fancied-up with a thin black edge and the unit also sports a Hancock air whistle, which emulated the sound of a three-note steam chime. The three-man head end crew is intent on watching the photographer (who's probably accompanied by a train master or other division official). Notice the head brakeman (just to the left of the fireman) is leaning far forward to check things out. The tunnel on the south side of the trestle was daylighted in the early '60s.
