| Smoke from the hard-working brake shoes surrounds a loaded Herzog ballast train as it descends the last of the Old Fort Loops into downtown Old Fort, as seen from the interior of a Southern Railway caboose on display at the old passenger station. The train will come to a stop after crossing Catawba Ave and the conductor will take off the retainers, then the train will be on its way east leaving the Blue Ridge Mountains behind. |
