A vibrant 35mm Kodachrome Transparency captures a warm sunny morning at Rio Grande's depot and engine servicing facility at Thistle, Utah. At the time, the Rio Grande Cafe (inside the depot) was still open, serving meals to D&RGW crews and non railroad employees alike. An EMD SD7 off the Salina North Local is spotted just outside the engine shop while a set of FTs await service on a swing helper east to Soldier Summit. Tied down on the Thistle siding, with FTs for power, is a Carbon County Railway coal train from the Horse Canyon mine, awaiting departure west to Geneva Steel some 27 miles away by rail.
