      Remarks & Notes
27 miles out of Denver Union Station, the Denver & Rio Grande Western route turns west into Tunnel 8, penetrating the imposing Flatirons during its climb toward the Moffat Tunnel and continental divide. In this view, Amtrak's westbound California Zephyr is exiting Tunnel 8 and passing the former sight of the now daylighted Tunnel 9. To the left is Eldorado Canyon, a popular climbing and hiking destination once served by the railroad from above, as well as trolleys and an incline railway from the canyon floor.

Good Light, Good Scenery, and a Train

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
