Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend Car 401. One of the lesser-known gems in the collection of the Nevada State Railroad Museum is this Gas Motor Car from the Tucson, Cornelia & Gila Bend Railroad. Built by the Edwards Motor Car Company in 1926, this car operated for 21 years between Gila Bend, AZ and a copper mine in the town of Ajo. During that time, it logged more than three quarters of a million miles, so it would appear that the railroad got its money's worth. Originally powered by a Continental, gasoline-burning engine, this car was re-engined in the early 40s with a 6-cylinder White Engine. At the end of its service life, it changed hands a couple of times, eventually ending up at NSRM. Since its arrival, it has been re-engined again, this time with a 75 hp Cummins Diesel. The car is operational and is brought out for passenger rides during selected special events at the musuem.
