      Remarks & Notes
It was a more innocent time… when a summertime swim in the Coal River might mean jumping off the railroad bridge at Sproul, and that’s what the photographer found when he visited there on June 24th, 1976. A westbound out of Danville was stopped just out of the tunnel, with three “l(fā)ocals” using the truss bridge for diving into the river! After posing for a picture, C&O Extra 3890 West will get the signal, and its endless consist of West Virginia bituminous will roll from Sproul Tunnel heading for the mainline at St. Albans.
