After derailing while trying to back into the museum the evening before, just about every maintenance crew from Oakland to Truckee is on hand to make sure there aren't any more mishaps, before 844 even started to back in, maintenance vehicles were out bending the curve from 17 degrees to 13.5 degrees, 13.5 was still a little too tight for 844's tender, of which its maximum radius is 13 degrees, because of this crews had to jack up the rear axle so the flange was floating above the rail in order for it to negotiate the curve
