| It was near this spot that the settlers along the Oregon trail left the Snake River and began the tortuous climb for the the summit of the Burnt Mountains. It was also where one family met their demise, as one of the many massacres along the trail.
The railroad climb for the summit of the Burnt Mountains starts about a mile railroad east of this spot on the old OSL, changing guard at Huntington to the OR&N. The grade will increase significantly beyond Durkee. (Hindman Hill) |
