| On a chilly late March morning NS C40-9W #9056 eases its train down from Horseshoe Curve and approaches the western edge of Altoona. During our travels to Altoona to cover the NS Heritage units we often found ourselves with some extra time to catch the beauty and history of the Altoona/ Horseshoe Curve area. History is coming to an end for the signal bridge and position signals that have stood guard here for many years. The modern signal bridge and signals as of now late spring 2012 been positioned and in effect also taking out the need for the historic ALTO Tower and its operators. |
