    Remarks & Notes
Coxo: The view from Kodak Rock. A stubby monolith located just below Windy Point has come to be known among rail enthusiasts as "Kodak Rock", because it provides a commanding view of the narrow gauge trains as they emerge from the woods at Coxo and cross Colorado Highway 17. At an elevation of 9,753, this two-engine freight has about 250 vertical feet, and about two, serpentine miles of track to traverse until it pulls into Cumbres Station. The tiny yellow structure that you see to the left of the train is a telephone booth. This booth is one of many that dotted the D&RGW narrow gauge lines back in the day. These phone booths allowed train crews to contact their dispatchers to report problems, delays and obtain train orders. No longer operational, a number of the remaining phone booths on the line from Chama to Antonito are still maintained by the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
