"Fellas, we're lookin' at some real Canadian Concrete up ahead!" White Pass Manager of Train Operations, Mark Schaefer (red jacket), holds a brief conference with the crew of Steam Locomotive #69 during a brief pause in rotary plow operations. Schaefer has been scouting ahead on a snowmobile and has determined that there's no way they'll be breaking through to Canadian Shed today. The snow up ahead is 15-20 ft deep and is as hard as concrete. The plow train will spend the remainder of today cleaning out the main and passing track at White Pass Station, allowing the Caterpillar Bulldozers some extra time to "soften things up" to the north. In an hour or two, they'll quit for the day, backing down the hill to Skagway. Tomorrow, they'll return for a major assault on Canadian Shed.
