Remarks & Notes

A Santa Fe westbound has stopped on the shoe-fly around the wreck site near Cajon Summit. Heavy rains washed out the double main line, leaving the tracks hanging in the air above the washout. Santa Fe 5037 east came around the corner after cresting summit and crashed into the canyon below, along with three other locomotives and many autoracks. A very sad and tragic event. Locomotives involved in the derailment were ATSF 5037, ATSF 8763, ATSF 5011, and ATSF 5610.
