It's a quiet Friday afternoon in the quaint hamlet of Meadowview, Va., until the sound of westbound local freight No. V40 momentarily breaks the stillness, permeating the air with the sound of a short train rumbling through the community. Just ahead, No. V40 will take the siding at Abingdon to meet opposing eastbound No. 38Q, which is quickly approaching from Bristol.
