Interstate's steam-powered derrick W50 is in the process of rerailing a Lehigh Valley hopper near Pine Branch, VA in the mid-'50s. In these more innocent times, there is only one hard hat to be seen (they were certainly not mandatory then). One of the company's eight RS-3s is handling the train (yes, the Interstate eventually had ten such Alcos, but numbers 38 and 39 wouldn't be acquired until the following year). This photo was taken by the late Hank Stuart, Jr., special assistant to the president.
