On another glorious March day in Alaska a southbound manifest bound for Seward skirts the shore of Lower Trail Lake just a few miles south of the tiny berg of Moose Pass, AK. This is a train of empties bound for the barge and will bring loads north to Anchorage. This barge operation is a winter only operation as usually this particular barge will berth in Anchorage most of the year. But as Anchorage is not an ice free port like Seward is in the winter the barge is diverted to Seward for unloading an the railroad hauls the freight north to Anchorage and then on to Fairbanks.
The reason railpictures.net has captured my imagination for so many years. Images of quality and distinction, in other words, amazing railroad photography.
