      Remarks & Notes
The photographer rode this train from Pittsburgh, and due to station dwell time was able to get up front and record this scene. PRR's second order of E8's from EMD came in Tuscan Red, #5701 was the second unit to get the treatment, matching #5702 is trailing. Another distinction with this order: their numbers painted in gold in the nose Keystone, and the extra headlamp. A custom leftover from the steam era--lights weren't on in the daytime. Meanwhile, a coal drag has entered the scene, slipping in the dark by the depot platforms over on track 2. An Ansco Color color transparency original.

The Pennsy was one of the biggest passenger carriers in the United States, but its fortunes waned and it lost business to the highways and skies, and stumbled toward its ill-fated merger with the New York Central.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
