While waiting to photograph a mighty Yellowstone led loaded ore train from the Mesabi Iron Range that was heading to the docks in Two Harbors, something caught my eye. Here was a recently installed tie, already stained with that reddish tint of natural ore, with a 1955 date nail stuck in it from a track gang that went through the Highland Lake area a few months prior. OK, maybe not. But some of these nails have survived many years ( this one has lasted 57 years ) and are still around today even though the former Missabe stopped using them in 62, as in 1962.
All those shots of interesting railroad details, what you see trackside, up close and personal! Excludes shots going into my other albums: "Engine Details," "Signal Details," and "Switchstand Shots."
