Shay No. 5 was delivered to this very location by the Lima Locomotive & Machine Works in 1905, which makes it "one of the oldest engines in continuous service on its original line, and the second oldest Shay in existence," according to the Cass Scenic Railroad. Note that it does not carry a Lima diamond builders plate, but an earlier round version.
