| The class 31 diesel-electric locomotives (GE U12B) were imported from the USA and placed in service on the South African Railways in 1958. All have been withdrawn, but a few survive in industrial use with private operators. RRL Grindrod's RB201 (ex- SAR 31-009) is departing from Nyala shaft on the outskirts of Welkom with a full load of gold-bearing ore. |
