      Remarks & Notes
When Santa Fe's F passenger units began wearing out, new steam-boiler-equipped GE U28CG's began service on the trains to Texas. Two U28CG's bring northbound Train 16, "Texas Chief," into Purcell, Okla. for a crew change on July 26, 1967 as the train of all low-level cars passes from ATSF's "Western Lines" to the "Eastern Lines," having come 489 miles from Houston and it is 868 miles on to Chicago.

The Santa Fe's warbonnet paint scheme on passenger diesel locomotives was one of the most iconic in railroading. It appealed to travelers and modellers alike, and helped brand Santa Fe all the way from Chicago to California and Texas.
