The sound of dynamic brakes echo throughout the Feather River Canyon as UP 7600 helps guide a long intermodal train across the North Fork Bridge. Originally built circa 1960, the North Fork Bridge was part of a Western Pacific track relocation project. This project would allow trains to safely avoid the newly created Lake Oroville, which had flooded the old right of way. Since then, trains have soared high above the Feather River as they exit Tunnel 8 and approach Intake. Eastbound trains then continue their long climb through the rest of the Feather River Canyon. This bridge is a magnificent example of the incredible railroad infrastructure required to run a railroad through the treacherous Feather River Canyon.
