            Remarks & Notes
First of its kind Developed as answer to replacing DC locomotives with AC power at a likely lower cost and a direct response to the GE ES44C4 model, EMDX 1207 is the first six axle AC locomotive configured in a B1-1B arrangement from EMD. This means that the outer two axles on each truck are powered while the axle closest to the fuel tank does not carry a traction motor. The use of 4 AC traction motors on a six axle unit allows this locomotive to achieve performance similar to an SD70M-2 but with two fewer traction motors. This unit was modified from a standard ACe to its current design at the Transportation Technology Center in Pueblo where it underwent extensive testing and will soon join two other locomotives of this type being built at EMD’s Muncie, Ind. plant. Wearing the classy blue EMD demo scheme, the 1207 patiently waits for a journey east to LaGrange.

Do you ever get the feeling as a model railroader, that you just might be creating something not "prototypical?" Same here.

Pictures of things often unseen in the world of railroading. Interesting equipment, operations, and people that help the railroad go around.
