Remarks & Notes

Built in 8-1949, this ballast car was likely hauled over the pass in revenue service by massive Northern Pacific articulated locomotives. Designed for ballast service, this car also saw heavy use in the Northern Pacific coal fields. The car was latter converted to a Mullan Pass Tunnel service car, where it has served sporadically for decades.
