| Real or Fake? That's the question that historians have pondered about the 4-4-0 "Edison" - seen here at Main Street Station - since the 1970s. It is clearly not an original Mason 4-4-0, which for many years it was made out to be. It was likely assembled by the Ford Rouge plant in the early 1930s from an 1870s-built Manchester 0-4-0. If you smell the smoke and feel the heat from the firebox, you'll probably agree that it's as "real" as any other steam locomotive out there. It's appropriate to say that the Edison is "a reproduction of a 4-4-0 American Standard that incorporates parts of an original period locomotive." |
